With sadness we inform you that Thursday, 14 December 2000 His Beatitude Myroslav Ivan Cardinal Lubachivsky, father and head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church died at the Metropolitan Palace of St. George's Cathedral in Lviv.

MYROSLAV IVAN LUBACHIWSKY

Born in Dolyna, Ivano-Frankivsk oblast, Arch eparchy of Lviv on June 24, 1914. Ordained a priest by the Servant of God Metropolitan Andrej Sheptycky on September 21, 1938. Nominated Metropolitan of Philadelphia for Ukrainians September 13, 1979. Consecrated Bishop on November 12 1979. Nominated Auxiliary Bishop of the Arch eparchy of Lviv with right of succession on March 27, 1980. Succeeded the Servant of God Joseph Cardinal Slipyj on September 7, 1984. Elevated to the dignity of Cardinal with the title of St. Sophia of Rome on May 25, 1985. Died December 14, 2000.
