The Ukrainian Catholic Education Foundation (UCEF) teaches Americans about the needs of the Ukrainian Catholic Church, the largest of the Eastern Catholic Churches. During the Soviet occupation Stalin outlawed the Church,  but church life continued underground.  In 1989 the Catholic Church was legalized, although much of its previous property was not returned.

In a country suffering from severe economic hardship and spiritual crisis, the Church must rise to meet the needs of the people and rebuild itself. UCEF activities include volunteer teaching programs, distribution of books and teaching materials, and grant programs.

The bishops of the Ukrainian Catholic Church have made the education and formation of nearly 1000 seminarians their top priority. The Church's principal educational institution is the Ukrainian
Catholic University
