Cardinal Husar Introduces His New Auxiliary Bishops
In Lviv on 4 March 2002, Cardinal Lubomyr Husar, head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC), officially introduced two recently ordained bishops to the city and eparchial administrations respectively. On the next day he left for Austria and Italy.
Bishop Ihor Vozniak, ordained on 17 February, will be responsible for current affairs of the Lviv archeparchy and will function as archeparchial vicar. According to Cardinal Husar, Bishop Vozniak is well acquainted with conditions of life in Ukraine, both during the hard times and after the UGCC came out of the underground. He already has considerable working experience as a pastor in Vinnytsia and in the Ternopil region and will be able to apply his knowledge and skills in Lviv.
Bishop Hlib Lonchyna, ordained on 27 February, will assist the head of the UGCC at the Patriarchal Curia and in matters concerning the lives of Ukrainian Greek Catholics who live abroad.
Later in the day Cardinal Husar, accompanied by Bishops Vozniak and Lonchyna, visited the Lviv City Council, where he met with Vasyl Kuybida, the mayor. During the course of their meeting, Cardinal Husar introduced his new assistants to the mayor, after which each party expressed a number of interesting proposals.
The head of the UGCC stressed the urgent need to reconstruct and renovate St. Georges's complex of buildings and to open a museum of the UGCC on its territory.
On 5 March 2002, Cardinal Husar left for Austria where he is planning to visit communities in Vienna and Salzburg as well as to take part in the celebration to commemorate St. Thomas Aquinas.
