Greek And Roman Catholic Hierarchs Discuss Cooperation
A joint meeting of the episcopates of the Ukrainian Greek
Catholic Church (UGCC) and the Roman Catholic Church (RCC)
was held in the Roman Catholic seminary in Briukhovychi near
Lviv on 23 January 2003. According to Cardinal Lubomyr Husar,
head of the UGCC, a meeting between the UGCC and RCC hierarchs
was needed to discuss issues of cooperation between these
two national churches in view of the current situation in
Ukraine.
"We need to take a realistic look at the situation in
Ukraine," said Cardinal Husar a day before the meeting.
"As in Romania, there are two great Catholic episcopates
in Ukraine today. We should demonstrate in practice what it
means to be Catholics of the Eastern and Western rites."
