In Catholic Congress In Poland
Cardinal Lubomyr Husar, head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic
Church (UGCC), and Prof. Myroslav Marynovych, vice-rector
of external affairs and director of the Institute of Religion
and Society at the Ukrainian Catholic University, participated
in the annual Gniezno Congress for Catholic organizations
and societies. With the motto "The Europe of the Spirit,"
the congress was held in Poland's capital, Warsaw, from 15
to 16 March 2003.
In his speech, Cardinal Husar reflected upon a model of the
unification of European countries and also spoke about the
need to cherish and develop spiritual values. "Europe
breathes with two lungs, but it has one heart beating in its
breast," he stressed. According to the cardinal, the
process of the unification of Europe is currently at its initial
stage and great efforts will need to be made for its further
development.
Prof. Marynovych said the drawback of the present is the
lack of fruitful dialogue between Christian East and West.
In conclusion, participants of the congress decided on the
next meeting and approved an address to the European Parliament.
