Sevastopol City Council To Reconsider Greek Catholic Case
The city council in southern Ukrainian Sevastopol will soon
reconsider the case of the return of a church building to
the local Greek Catholic community. This news was reported
by the news agency "Political Ukraine" on 21 March
2003.
Since 1995 the city's Greek Catholic community has sent numerous
requests to the city council to return the building. All of
them were always declined. Meanwhile, the building is occupied
by a movie theater, whereas the 400-member community has to
attend religious services that are held in an apartment. The
closest Greek Catholic church is situated in the city of Yalta.
In 1991, the Sevastopol city council transferred 13 religious
buildings to local religious organizations, 12 were Orthodox
churches and 1 mosque.
