Easter Breakfast For Needy Held in Lviv
1 thousand lonely and homeless residents of western Ukrainian
Lviv ate a traditional Easter breakfast around a festal table
set for them at the Greek Catholic Cathedral of St. George.
This occurred on 27 April 2003, Easter day according to the
Julian calendar.
Among the organizers of the breakfast were the charitable
organizations Caritas and the Maltese Cross. The organizers
planned on 400 people, but, thanks to harmonious cooperation
and the generous support of financial sponsors, none of the
1000 needy were left hungry.
The breakfast began with a blessing by Cardinal Lubomyr Husar,
head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.
"That such a great number of needy people responded
to the invitation shows the importance of such events. And
it indicates the need for civic organizations, as well as
the church and government, to unite efforts in preparations,"
said Oleksii Poburko of the Maltese Cross.
