Catechetical Conference Held in Lviv
Lviv - An all-Ukrainian scholarly conference "The Catechetical Ministry
of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church Today: Experience,
Problems and Prospects" took place on the premises of Holy Spirit Seminary
in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv on 28-30 July 2004.
The main objective of the conference was to discuss the religious
training of children, youth and adults in the UGCC eparchies
in Ukraine and diaspora. The organizers of the conference
were the Patriarchal Catechetical Committee and the Catechetical-Pedagogical
Institute of the Ukrainian Catholic University. The conference
was dedicated to Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky and Cardinal
Josyf Slipyj, two outstanding leaders of the UGCC in the 20th
century.
The participants of the conference were representatives of
the Ukrainian eparchies, apostolic exarchates and administrations
of Europe (Poland, Italy, Greece, Portugal, Spain, France,
Yugoslavia and Great Britain), as well as guests from Russia
and Kazakhstan.
Cardinal Lubomyr Husar, head of the UGCC, in his address
to the participants of the conference emphasized that the
main task of every catechist is not just verbally to deliver
the message of God to as many people as possible, but to achieve the
ultimate goal, which is to save human souls.
The participants
of the conference were greeted by Archbishop Ivan Yurkovic,
apostolic nuncio to Ukraine.
