Catholic Youth to Pray for Fair Election
Lviv - Obnova (Renewal), the federation of Ukrainian students and academic
Catholic communities, has called for common prayer for the second round
of Ukraine's presidential election, to be held on 21 November. An address
to the youth says, among other things: "One of the manifestations of
human freedom is the right to declare one's will while electing the head
of state. The first round of the election showed that the government
uses manipulative approaches not only in organizing the process of election,
but in counting the votes as well." The address was posted on the official
site of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church on 18 November 2004.
"We can not allow our vote to be stolen. We believe that we can protect
our choice through voter activism and sincere prayer. We urge you to
check the presence of your name in the list of voters and to come to
your ward on 21 November and vote," the address reads.
Youth will hold special prayer services on 20 November in churches in
Lviv, Ternopil, Chernivtsi and Ivano-Frankivsk.
