First Eucharistic Sobor Starts in Lviv

Lviv — The 1 st All-Ukrainian Eucharistic Sobor (assembly) started in western Ukrainian Lviv on 24 June 2005. Since 2005 was announced by the late Pope John Paul II as the Year of the Holy Eucharist, the sobor gathered representatives from all over Ukraine to share their eucharistic experiences, participate in a scholarly conference at the Ukrainian Catholic University, and join in prayer.
It is planned that on 26 June, Cardinal Lubomyr Husar, head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC), will celebrate the Liturgy. A delegation of hierarchs of the UGCC is expected from abroad, as well as representatives of the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine and Poland. According to Fr. Mykhailo Dymyd, head of the organizing committee for the Eucharistic Sobor, from 100 to 300 thousand faithful are expected to participate in the sobor.
