UCU Holds Conference in Lviv on Post-Abortion Syndrome
Lviv - On 28 February 2007 in the conference hall of the Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU) in western Ukrainian Lviv, a conference on post-abortion syndrome was conducted. It was initiated by UCU's Institute of Marriage and Family Life. Participants analyzed the position of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) regarding unborn children and the church's role in the moral healing of families in which abortion has been committed. The role of the laity in this difficult matter was also discussed.
The conference was opened by Bishop Hlib Lonchyna, auxiliary bishop of Patriarch Lubomyr (Husar), head of the UGCC.
Among the speakers, Zenovii Onyshko, director of the Lviv Psychiatric Hospital , talked about the after-effects of post-abortion syndrome, emphasizing that "the baby's development in the mother's womb stops as soon as the woman starts thinking about abortion."
Religious, medical personnel, and lay people participated in the conference.
