Pope Says Ukrainian Catholic University Support for Ecumenism "Important"
"The Ukrainian Catholic University can, without a doubt, provide important support for ecumenical activities." So said Pope Benedict XVI on 1 February 2008 to the Greek Catholic bishops of Ukraine who had come to Rome for an "Ad Limina Apostolorum" visit.

The Greek Catholic bishops of Ukraine came to Rome in January for an "Ad Limina Apostolorum" visit, literally "to the tombs of the apostles" in Latin. This was their first such visit since 1937.
In a discourse to the bishops at the end of their visit, the Pope, among other things, mentioned that ecumenical work is "our concern" and "also close to your heart. In Ukraine for centuries Orthodox and Catholics have been trying to conduct daily a humble dialogue that embraces many aspects of life."
In this context, he mentioned the importance of the support of the Ukrainian Catholic University for ecumenical activities.
Note: In May 2007, the Pope gave 100,000 euros for the project to build UCU's new campus from money he received on the occasion of his 80 th birthday.
