What We Do
Established in 1997, the
Ukrainian Catholic Education Foundation informs Americans about the academic and financial
needs of the Ukrainian Catholic Church and its educational institutions in Ukraine. We
foster the communion of Ukrainian Americans with the Ukrainian nation and of Roman
Catholics in the West with the largest Eastern Catholic Church.
-
Meet
Needs Today and Tomorrow. The
Catholic Church in Ukraine was persecuted by the Soviets from 1946 to 1990;
all of its activities were driven underground and its properties were confiscated.
The UCEF Institutional Support Program helps educational and religious institutions
in Ukraine to meet present needs and develop endowments for the future.
-
Encourage Charitable Stewardship. The ministry of stewardship is crucial for the continued rebirth of authentic society and culture in Ukraine . The Ukrainian Catholic University is intellectually and spiritually forming the Christian leaders of Ukraine 's future. Leaders who are open to the truth, committed to renewing the professional, political and culture attitudes of society and imbued with an integrated Christian world view and calling.
-
Helping Lead Charity Toward the Poor. The UCEF, through partnership and strategic networking fulfills its calling to reform the post-communist culture of Ukraine , the Ukrainian Catholic University , through its many ministries is bringing the transforming light of Christian charity to those systematically neglected by Ukrainian society. Orphans, the mentally handicapped, the elderly and the unborn are acknowledged as God's children by ministries that publicly highlight and reintegrate these formerly neglected communities into the fabric of public life.
- Foster
Global Communion. The UCEF Exchange
Programs provide opportunities both for Ukrainian students to study or intern
in North America and for North American teachers and professors to volunteer
in Ukraine.
-
Teach in
Ukraine: By bringing native English speakers to Ukraine for intensive English
summer institutes, the UCEF helps North Americans from non-Ukrainian backgrounds learn
about this exciting part of the world.
-
Study in America:
American colleges and summer programs offer a wealth of courses and
study opportunities not available in Ukraine. Qualified students with
a working knowledge of English also benefit greatly from the introduction
to American libraries, museums, and the fullness of university life.
-
Serve in America: Todays
Ukrainian students have grown up without an experience of many cultural and economic
institutions typical of successful communities in free societies. By helping in North
American parishes and service agencies, students see how vibrant programs work, contribute
their own energy and skills, and create ties with the Ukrainian community abroad.
-
Create
Awareness. The UCEF promotes scholarly research in Ukrainian history, culture and spirituality as well as a creating the opportunity to obtain deeper knowledge of the Ukrainian Catholic Church and its contemporary and developing circumstances.
